2 Samuel 11:1-11; 26-27

We all have an expectation that those people who are leaders in a church or in any Christian ministry will be people of integrity and honour. We know no one is perfect but have good reason to expect these people will do better than average.

It disappoints us terribly when they do fail and their lack of honour is revealed. And it should disappoint us.

Today we will read about David, a good king who loved God and who, up to now, has been a wonderful example for us in so many ways. But in this chapter of his life, he is dishonourable, and we cannot ignore that.

At one point in his life, David wrote these insightful words –

May those who hope in you not be disgraced because of me, O Lord, the LORD Almighty;

may those who seek you not be put to shame because of me, O God of Israel.       (Psalm 69:6)

It is a good prayer for all of us as we learn from David’s evil acts.
