When a cruise ship embarks on its journey, it’s crucial to set a specific destination and maintain the correct course. Even a slight deviation from the intended route can lead to being significantly off course and missing the intended port. But how does the captain navigate when there’s nothing but water in sight? They rely on instruments for guidance.
Similarly, the letter of Jude serves as our compass, helping us stay on course in our Christian journey. It opens with a wonderful statement of who Christians are and what we need, and closes with a beautiful expression of faith in God. In the middle, the story is very different. Here we see the importance of staying on the right track.
One way of showing us the right way is to show us the results of going the wrong way. Jude does this for us.
