King Saul is descending further into fear and paranoia convinced that David is waiting to kill him. David, however, is in a cave with his family and a bunch of outcasts who are trying to find safety. Another man turns up to find safety with David after watching his family killed by Doeg. David’s words to that man, Abiathar, are words that should comfort us all, “You will be safe with me.” If David can make such a promise – and keep it – how much more can we depend on the promises that Jesus makes?
