One of the downsides of being a Christian is dealing with the comments of friends and sceptics when another Christian does something foolish. People identify us with that person and we have to answer for their actions, even if we don’t know them or agree with them.

In this sermon we hear a passage from the Bible (in the gospel of Matthew) which might leave us wondering what is happening. A simple way to understand is this phrase – “Jesus is baptised for you”

In this act of baptism, Jesus is identifying himself with those repentant sinners who were also being baptised, but more than that, he was identifying himself with us. Then he is identified by God himself. It really is a remarkable part of the story.
