The story of the birth of Jesus will be in the minds of millions upon millions of people this week, many of whom don’t even think about it at any other time.
We might think that the story begins in Bethlehem. But reading the story carefully makes us see that there is something happening well before Joseph & Mary arrive there. So we can assume the story begins in Nazareth. And for Mary, that is where the story begins.
But it’s not really where the whole story begins. And Matthew, the writer of the gospel we are reading, won’t let us think it begins in Nazareth or in Bethlehem. He points back in time to the prophets of the Old Testament
Today we will be encouraged as we remind ourselves of God’s unfolding plan seen in Jesus.
